There are a multitude of anti-aging treatments that promise to reduce the look of wrinkles and scars. As a clinician, I want to provide my clients with treatment options that will be safe and effective: for a treatment to be considered, it must contain an aspect of healing and it must not destroy the integrity of the skin. It must be effective and safe, from the ingredients to the application. I have reformulated a technique called Collagen Induction Therapy, or CIT. This procedure treats all sorts of imperfections of the skin: wrinkles, fine or deep; scars from acne, chicken pox, burns or surgery scars; stretch marks; pits left from picking or scabs; laugh lines or wrinkles from smoking.

ICIT is simple, safe and effective. When we are young, our skin regenerates every 25 to 30 days; as we get older, though, this process slows to 30 to 45 days. Our skin also produces less elastin and collagen as we age. Collagen is the main element of the dermis and provides structure and tone. Elastin allows our skin to stretch and move but retain its shape. It is these two factors – the slower regeneration time and the reduction in collagen and elastin production that results in all the traits we associate with aging skin: thin, dull and wrinkled. Our skin's appearance is determined by genetics and skin type, of course, and the lifestyle choices we make: using tanning beds, long-term exposure to the sun, smoking, poor diet or lack of proper hydration, or even certain sleeping positions.

Image CIT breaks up the old and damaged collagen structure in the problem area and stimulates your skin's own collagen and elastin production. This new collagen and elastin smooth and tighten the surface of the skin, filling in wrinkles and imperfections. Because Image CIT is able to treat the epidermis (the outer layer of skin) without removing the dermis (the inner layer), skin heals quickly and is usually back to normal in under a week. Image CIT can be repeated at any point after the healing process. The process can be used for spot or small areas issues or full face and neck (usually recommend three treatments, waiting 6 to 8 weeks between as this allows the collagen to reach normal levels. Image CIT can be used on those with thin skin or those who have had laser resurfacing treatments.

What is Image Collagen Induction Therapy? ICIT has many names: Skin Needling, Needle Dermabrasion, Subcutaneous Collagen Induction (PCI), Skin Remodeling, and Multitrepannic Collagen Actuation (MCA), and all consist of stimulating the dermis to improve collagen production and skin texture. ICIT is not Derma Rolling, MTS nor a Hand Roller. CIT was initially developed by physicians in South Africa, and Deborah Dassion has been certified as a CIT practitioner.

Image CIT is a versatile option: it is an excellent complimentary treatment to cosmetic medical procedures but can also stand alone as an effective and affordable way to improve your skin's appearance without injections or fillers. Image CIT can be performed anywhere on the body: around the eyes; on the hands, neck or stomach; or on stretch marks on the legs, body or chest.

This is a very effective but delicate procedure, and should only be performed by a certified and trained technician. A treatment begins by cleaning the area and applying topical anesthetics. There are a variety of fine needle clusters to choose from depending on the size and depth of the affected area. The needle cluster is gently inserted into the skin and breaks up the old bands of tissue beneath a scar or wrinkle that inhibit collagen and elastin production and movement. This stimulates collagen and elastin production, smoothing and tightening the skin.
After a treatment, the treated area will be red and slightly abraded in appearance. Once the skin has healed (usually a few days, depending on the depth of the treated area) you will notice an improvement in texture, color and movement. More profound scars or wounds, like large surgical scars, or scars from burns, can take longer to heal.

How can I ensure the best results?
Your best results will come from a quality treatment by a trained and certified professional and your own regimen. The treatment serves to stimulate collagen and elastin production for up to a year and your regimen serves to maintain the production and the healthy state of your skin. Should you decide on Image CIT, please bring whatever products you use on the affected area. We will work together to develop a regimen that will meet your needs and ensure lasting results.
If you have any of the following issues or conditions, Image CIT may not be an ideal option: if you have raised moles, warts or lesions; take high blood pressure or heart medication; if you suffer from herpetic breakouts (unless you have been on antiviral medication for the 6 months preceding treatment); if you are diabetic; if the scars are recent (less than 6 months old); or if you are prone to keloid scars or heal very slowly. If you are on blood-thinning medication, tend towards hyper-pigmentation or suffer from a skin disease or disorder, please be sure to raise these issues during the consultation.
If you have had a facial filler or Botox injection, you must wait at least 4 to 6 months before undergoing an Image CIT treatment. Similarly, facial surgery, or permanent fillers like Dermagen or shark cartilage also require a 6 month waiting period before a treatment.

Before Treatment
During the consultation you will have an opportunity to discuss your expectations. Whether you would like to keep your routine as simple as possible or if you are looking to dramatically change the appearance of the affected area, Lasting Image will work with you to devise a treatment strategy that will meet your needs. If you are interested in further treatments, Lasting Image can provide you with several options, such as microdermabrasion, chemical peels, intensive ingredient safe serums, or supportive facial treatment. You can also work with your physician for laser treatments or prescription medications like Retin A or Renova.

After Treatment
For full face and neck treatments Lasting Image will recommend a kit to help care for your skin after treatment with an antibiotic ointment, concealer and healing crème. You can also use fruit acid creams, topical vitamin A, C and/ or E, or collagen-producing products. Doctor-prescribed creams like Prevage are also recommended.
